American ‘DJ X’ feels his music and musical career are going nowhere. Besides that, his life is marked by broken relationships within his family. In the middle of an EDM concert he has a meltdown and, to his and our amazement, a spirit -MIXTIA- appears before him.
MIXTIA takes ‘DJ X’ on a journey back in time to discover his actual roots. There he meets three Hispanic ancestors: first, in the cultural crossroads of medieval Spain; then, in the exotic climes of the South American plains; and finally, in Cuba and New York. Along the way, he re-lives a series of life-transforming experiences, in which he discovers the stories of his people and the unexpected diversity of their music.
Loosely inspired by Dickens' A Christmas Carol, the story is performed by a cast of 25 dancers, musicians and singers.
In this life-affirming new musical, the sounds and dances of India, Arabia, Spain, West Africa, Venezuela, Colombia and Cuba, are re-envisioned and re-mixed with the Electronic Dance Music of today (EDM), as we travel with our protagonist on his magical journey to self-understanding, redemption and the discovery of his own unique sound, the Latin music of tomorrow…
